Planet Organic Offers Tips on Packing Healthy Lunches

EDMONTON - Canadian natural and organic retailer Planet Organic Markets yesterday launched a new program to educate school children on how to pack more nutritious lunches.

The chain said the program includes a food-tracking device -- featuring Fennel Fairy, the company's new mascot -designed to help parents track how many fruits and vegetables their kids eat daily.

"Fresh, local fruits and vegetables are a healthy snack compared to processed, packaged fruit," said Amy Carrier, food specialist for Planet Organic. "Local produce maximizes the enzyme and nutrient levels of the foods you eat, but it also supports local farmers and our economy."
