Piggly Wiggly/Charleston Works with Southern Cuisine Experts on Recipe Contest
CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Piggly Wiggly Carolina Co., Inc. based here has tapped Matt and Ted Lee, nationally recognized food and travel writers and authors of The Lee Bros. Southern Cookbook, to serve as final judges in the grocer's first-ever Piggly Wiggly Taste of the South Recipe Contest.
The contest, which launches this week in all 115 Piggly Wiggly Carolina's stores in South Carolina, southeastern Georgia, and North Carolina, will recognize the South's best amateur cooks, culminating in the Lees choosing the grand prize winner during the December 6 finals in Charleston.
"We knew that Matt and Ted were the perfect pair to judge the final round," said David Schools, Piggly Wiggly's c.e.o. "They just get what makes good food, cooking and entertaining such an important part of southern lifestyles."
Schools said Piggly Wiggly created the Taste of the South Recipe Contest to recognize the best in Southern cooking, inclusive of original recipes featuring local produce and seafood to dishes that highlight a southerner's flair for entertaining.
From now until October 21, contestants will have the opportunity to enter recipes in one of three categories: appetizers, salads and side dishes; main dishes; and desserts. Semi-finalists will compete in one of four regional rounds to be held in Charleston, Columbia, Savannah and Myrtle Beach on November 17.
Finalists selected from each of the four regions will convene in Charleston on December 6, where the Lee brothers will name a grand prize winner, who will receive a prize package that will include a set of All-Clad cookware valued at $1,600.
