Penn Traffic Wields New Weapon Against Shrink
SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Regional supermarket chain Penn Traffic Co. yesterday deployed a new Web-based tool that it expects to help uncover opportunities to improve financial performance and reduce shrink in its stores.
The retailer is using the Store Manager's Assistant from Retail Expert, Inc., a Boston-based technology company that provides solutions for various aspects of the retail business, including loss prevention, sales, and operations.
This is the second module Penn Traffic is using from Retail Expert. "We are very excited about the results we have seen since the launch of Retail Expert's NaviStor exception reporting and performance management system," said Steve Middleton, v.p. of asset protection for Penn Traffic. "Retail Expert's new Store Manager's Assistant will give our store managers the information needed to improve their operations. By pinpointing key performance indicators that are important to the business, our store managers have the details they need to change behaviors that cause shrink and combat store operational inefficiencies."
According to Middleton, the NaviStor module gives Penn Traffic flexibility in establishing specific business measurements necessary to reduce the company's exposure to shrink and sales reducing activities while improving operational performance.
Penn Traffic operates 110 supermarkets in Pennsylvania, upstate New York, Vermont, and New Hampshire under the BiLo, P&C, and Quality trade names. Penn Traffic also operates a wholesale food distribution business serving 79 licensed franchises and 41 independent operators, and Penny Curtiss, a Syracuse-based commercial bakery.
