Pathmark Stores Selects S2 Systems' OpeN/2 Platform

CARTERET, N.J. - Pathmark Stores, Inc. has selected the OpeN/2 enterprise payment solution from S2 Systems, Inc. as part of its technology initiative to upgrade payment systems in all of its stores.

S2 Systems is a global provider of transaction processing, authorization, and integrated solutions for the banking, financial services, and retail market, and its OpeN/2 platform is the part of an integrated framework that enables retailers to transform the customer's multichannel experience into a single view.

OpeN/2 enables retail organizations to grow their payment infrastructure by routing transactions through an open systems-based payment switch including credit, debit, check authorization, gift, prepaid, and EBT transactions.

"Our strategic technology investments are geared toward open architecture solutions that can grow with Pathmark's business and easily adapt to support newer customer-facing applications," said Bob Schoening, s.v.p. and c.i.o. of Pathmark. "S2 Systems' OpeN/2 gives us the kind of flexibility we need to handle online payment transactions from increasingly advanced and retail-hardened POS devices. Most importantly, it fits into a larger infrastructure framework that enables us to reduce our operating expenses and minimize ongoing development costs."

Pathmark's technology initiative with S2 Systems helps safeguard solution investments by minimizing compatibility issues that can reduce the life cycle of those solutions.

The supermarket chain is upgrading all its stores to advanced IBM SurePOS 700 systems and Application Client Server Environment (ACE) grocery application software. S2 Systems" OpeN/2 solution will interface with ACE to provide a streamlined transaction processing solution to speed payment authorizations and reduce check fraud.

OpeN/2 will be deployed on IBM's eServer pSeries to virtualize resources; DB2 will be used as the relational database to improve response time. S2 Systems' OpeN/2 on pSeries enables organizations to maximize performance by leveraging advanced symmetrical multiprocessing technologies to handle demanding workloads across disparate systems.
