Pathmark Sponsoring African-American-themed Events in Philly, New York
MONTVALE, N.J. -- In honor of Black History Month in February, Pathmark here will sponsor sister events in Philadelphia and New York. Both cities are in the heart of the Mid-Atlantic grocer's market area.
The second annual Pathmark Black History Month Celebration is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 16. The free event, which will once again take place in the North Waiting Room at Philadelphia's 30th Street Station from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., will feature choirs, vocalists, dancers, and instrumentalists performing African-American and African diaspora music.
Among the scheduled acts are cast members from "Stormy Weather," a stage show based on the life of famed singer/actress Lena Horne; the Phyllies Intruders, whose repertoire is made up of popular oldies; gospel performers Badiyah Barnes, Heaven Bound Gospel Singers, and Voices of the Lord; and traditional African and Caribbean music and dance troupe The Seventh Principle.
Additionally, Pathmark will again hold the Pathmark Gospel Choir Competition Feb. 3 at the World Financial Center's Winter Garden in New York City from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Prizes will be awarded in both youth and open divisions, and XM Satellite Radio will record the performances for broadcast at a later date. The competition was first held in 2001.
