Pathmark to Have Medicare Awareness Day

CARTERET, N.J. -- Pathmark Stores, Inc., based here, will hold a Medicare Awareness Day on Nov. 1 at its New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware stores, with specially trained Pathmark pharmacists on hand to answer questions about the new Medicare Part D prescription benefit that goes into effect the first of the year.

The event anticipates the Nov. 15 enrollment period for Medicare-eligible individuals who must choose a plan. Customers can call any of Pathmark’s 129 stores with a pharmacy department to schedule an appointment.

Pathmark is also joining forces with Aetna Medicare and the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to educate shoppers. Trained professionals from both organizations will be at select stores to spread the word about the new government benefit. In New Jersey the State Health Insurance Assistance Program will also be at select Pathmarks, to help provide information. These organizations will run additional outreach events at 25 Pathmark locations during the rest of the month.

"The objective of our Medicare Awareness Day is to provide a forum where people can get individualized attention, ask questions, and obtain information on an important benefit,” said Pathmark v.p. of pharmacy Jim Finocchi in a statement. “We are also fortunate to have partners like Aetna Medicare and CMS that are willing to join us in our effort."

Pathmark operates 142 stores in the New York-New Jersey and Philadelphia metropolitan areas.
