Orthodox Union to Honor Wakefern and Campbell Soup Company

NEW YORK - The Orthodox Union has announced it will honor Wakefern Food Corportation and the Campbell Soup Company at its 106th Anniversary National Dinner on May 16 at the New York Marriot Marquis Hotel.

The OU will present its National Kashrut Leadership Award to Wakefern Food Corporation, the nation's largest retailer-owned cooperative, which operates 200 ShopRite supermarkets in five northeastern states. There are more than 850 OU certified products under the ShopRite label. Additionally, many ShopRite supermarkets offer customers additional variety through their "Kosher Experience" departments, ranging from kosher meat and fish to deli and baked goods.

ShopRite also works with more than 1,400 local charities to help meet the nutritional needs of families and the elderly through its "Partners in Caring Program." Since its inception in 1998, the program has donated $7 million to support groups, including organizations in the Jewish community, dedicated to fighting hunger.

Campbell Soup Company is being recognized for its ongoing partnership with the OU in certifying popular Campbell brands. The latest effort came last September when the OU certified Campbell's Vegetarian Vegetable Soup.
