NSF International Acquires Quality Assurance International

ANN ARBOR, Mich. and SAN DIEGO, Calif. - NSF International, an independent, not-for-profit company specializing in public health and safety risk management solutions, has acquired Quality Assurance International, Inc., which offers organic certification services.

The two organizations will now unite to offer independent, third-party certification programs and quality services to help safeguard food and consumer items.

San Diego, Calif.-based QAI has concentrated on providing organic certification services at each step in the organic production process and educating the organic community and consumers alike. Recent market surveys show that two out of three certified-organic products in U.S. stores employ QAI certification services. Ann Arbor, Mich.-based NSF's acquisition of QAI advances the latter's strategic plans and increases capabilities as it bolsters NSF's continuing mission to provide the highest-quality standards development, product certification, education, and risk management solutions for public health and safety.

QAI and NSF will offer their combined services to the food industry, producers, trading companies, manufacturers, private labelers, restaurants, and retail distributors, among a broad array of clients.

"The true beneficiaries of this acquisition will be businesses and consumers as NSF and QAI redefine technical excellence in third-party certification," said NSF president and c.e.o. Kevan P. Lawlor, who added that the companies will meet the needs of consumers who demand quality and accountability at every step of the organic certification process.
