NJFC’s Doherty Completes Term as FIAE Chair

Linda M. Doherty, president and CEO of the New Jersey Food Council (NJFC), completed her one-year term as chairwoman of the Food Industry Association Executives (FIAE) during the group’s recent annual convention at the Westin La Cantera in San Antonio.

The incoming class of FAIE officers includes chairman Joe Williams of the Texas Retailers Association; vice chairman Dan Shaul of the Missouri Grocers Association; Jamie Pfuhl of the Minnesota Grocers Association as secretary/treasurer; and Doherty as immediate past chair. Also elected as new board members were Jan Gee of the Washington Food Industry Association; Brian Jordan of the Illinois Food Retailers Association; and Greg Ferrara of the National Grocers Association.

An active member and strong advocate of FIAE -- a network of local, state, regional, national and international food associations -- Doherty has served on FIAE’s board and executive committee for a number of years. In 2010, she served as chairwoman of the FIAE national convention.

“Linda’s leadership has brought the membership together and created added value to FIAE participation,” said Jim Olsen, FAIE’s president, including share groups and mentoring programs that were created under her leadership watch. “We are honored to have her serve as the 2011 chair of FIAE.”

Having served on New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s transition team as a member of the Economic Growth and Development sub-committee, Doherty presently serves on the board of the Food Policy Institute at Rutgers University, The Food Innovation Center, the Clean Communities Council and N.J. DARE. Earlier this year, she was recognized with the Founder’s Day Legacy Award by Felician College. In 2008, she was honored by the national Grocery Manufacturers Association with the prestigious “Excellence in Government Affairs” award for her work on food retailer and supplier issues. She also serves on the N.J. Child Labor Law Enforcement Advisory Board and is a member of the N.J. Society of Environmental and Economic Development (NJSEED).

As the fifth NJFC president in its 40-year history, Dougherty formerly served the Trenton-based trade association during her 18-year career as EVP, VP and director of communications and public affairs.
