SAN FRANCISCO - The following announcements were presented at FMI Marketechnics this week:

Long Beach, Calif.-based Epson, a provider of value-added point-of-sale solutions, and Sweda Corp. of Dallas, Texas, a provider of open-architecture point-of-sale software solutions for the retail industry, announced a digital marketing solution pilot at a Colleyville, Texas Market Street store operated by United Supermarkets. The pilot, initiated late last year, includes four focus areas where large screens call attention to promotional areas. The solution uses Epson PowerLite network projectors and SwedaMedia digital marketing software.

Microsoft Corp. of Redmond, Wash., announced that Smart & Final, an operator of nonmembership warehouse stores for food, supplies, and culinary equipment, is deploying the next phase of its real-time retailing solution designed to improve connectivity and integration of data among the stores, vendors, business customers, and corporate headquarters. Smart & Final's POS real-time data repository leverages Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Microsoft SQL Server, and industry-standard HP ProLiant server technology to improve scalability and fault tolerance. Embracing Microsoft's Smarter Retailing Initiative, the system will provide data and be part of the foundation for future technology initiatives designed to seamlessly introduce new capabilities and services.

Softechnics, an Akron, Ohio-based provider of integrated retail enterprise software solutions, announced the implementation of ChainTrack HQ with Save Mart Supermarkets of Modesto, Calif. The solution optimizes price and item management, using advanced technologies to integrate item management, invoice auditing, ad planning, and data warehousing at the headquarters to provide timely and accurate data to the in-store ChainTrack applications.

Cincinnati-based Kroger Co. and Supervalu, Inc. of Eden Prairie, Minn contracted with Seattle-based AccessVia for its label-design solutions. Kroger has chosen AccessVia's dSIGN as the sign- and label-printing solution for its more than 2,500 supermarkets and multidepartment stores. Supervalu has rolled out Web dSignShop in three of its grocery chains, creating an enterprisewide sign-printing solution that leverages corporate assets and meets the unique visual and data requirements of individual divisions. Farm Fresh, Cub Foods, and Scott's are now using AccessVia's web-based in-store sign printing solution, and Supervalu will be moving forward with implementations in other chains in its network of more than 1,400 retail grocery locations.
