Newflower Farmers Market to Open Second Texas Store Next Month

Newflower Farmers Market (Sunflower Farmers Market's Texas operation) has again demonstrated its commitment to growth with a new store planed to open Feb. 12 in Austin -- its second unit in the state - to be followed up with a Dallas store slated for this spring.

"In today's hard economic times, Newflower is the most cost-effective choice out there, offering fresh produce and all-natural meats at down-home prices," said Newflower Founder and CEO Mike Gilliland. "We make healthy cooking at home easy, with in-store recipe cards, nutritional programs and the lowest prices in town."

The market was constructed with sustainability in mind, using energy-efficient light fixtures and recycled and refurbished equipment, cases and fixtures whenever possible, as well as cash registers that use double-sided receipts to reduce paper waste by 40 percent.

Store lighting was designed using a layering technique that combines ambient light with task and accent lighting to emphasize foods, fixtures and spaces. In keeping with Newflower's mandate to be as green as possible, the store also features a programmable light control relay panel that will be used to switch light fixtures on and off during various times of the day. The system includes photosensor switching that controls the luminaries based on the amount of daylight entering the windows in the raised-ceiling areas.

Newflower Farmers Market's sister store, Sunflower Farmers Market, operates 21 full-service grocery stores throughout Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada and Utah.
