New York State the Booster for Nearly 50 N.Y. Companies at FMI

ALBANY, N.Y. -- New York state agriculture commissioner Patrick H. Brennan said yesterday that almost 50 New York food companies would exhibit at the "Power of Five" at Chicago's McCormick Place from May 7 to May 9, thanks to the "Pride of New York" program. The Power of Five, which attracts more than 30,000 buyers from around the world annually, consists of the U.S. Food Export Showcase, the United Produce Expo, the Food Marketing Institute Show, the Fancy Food Show, and All Things Organic.

"The Pride of New York program has been extremely effective in raising the awareness of New York-grown and -processed food items to our immediate customers," noted Brennan in a statement. "By providing shared booth space at a fraction of the cost, the [New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets] enables these same food companies to showcase their 'pride' to a much broader audience and, conveniently, all under one roof. The food companies that travel to Chicago benefit greatly from increased exposure, but will also have a much greater impact on our local communities and farmers when they return to New York with additional sales."

The department organizes a New York exhibitor pavilion at major national food trade shows throughout the year, among them the U.S. Food Export Showcase and the United Produce Expo. By exhibiting under the Pride of New York banner, companies get help in managing their booth, benefit from a larger and more visible location, and are able to network with other New York companies. Additionally, the department makes it easier for New York companies to participate in other federal and regional programs to boost their chances of success at trade shows.
