New Cirelli's Marketplace Manager Expands Local Produce, Ethnic Offerings

Under the leadership of recently hired store manager John Santos, Cirelli's Marketplace is expanding fresh local produce, in-house baking of specialty desserts, ethnic foods to meet the needs of the area's shifting demographics, and product sizes.

This summer, at Santos' instigation, the 17,000-square-foot retail arm of Middleborough, Mass.-based broadline foodservice distributor Cirelli Foods is offering both a local outdoor Farmer’s Market on Fridays from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and a Car Classic Cruise Night every Saturday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

He also heads up, along with Mike Ioli in customer service, Cirelli's party-planning program, which debuted in May.

Santos, who boasts over two decades of supermarket and foodservice experience, has held management positions with such companies as Whole Foods, Purity Supreme, A&P, Angelo's, and Save-A-Lot. He additionally ran a restaurant called Senor Santos with his brothers. His predecessor, whom the company declined to identify, has left the company for undisclosed reasons.

Cirelli's Marketplace offers 4,000 on-shelf products, and provides access to any of the other 10,000 items in stock in its warehouse.
