Nash Finch Announces the Resignation of President/COO
MINNEAPOLIS - Retailer and distributor Nash Finch Company late Tuesday announced the resignation of Jerry L. Nelson, its president and chief operating officer. In a press release, Nelson said "the time is right" to do something different, but did not announce his immediate plans.
Nash Finch did not name a successor for Nelson.
Nelson joined Nash Finch in September 1999, serving as v.p. and s.v.p. of its Midwest Region, then as president, food distribution, before becoming president and c.o.o. in September 2002.
"It is with regret that I announce Jerry's decision to leave," said Ron Marshall, c.e.o. "I have appreciated his advice, counsel, and enthusiasm in every position he has held in his five years with us. He has provided valuable service to us in reorganizing and revitalizing our wholesale division, strengthening our industry-leading metrics, and setting new standards for customer service. He has developed a strong team of leaders that will allow us to continue to grow our wholesale business, and he has also been an invaluable aid in recruiting talented executives to positions in retail and marketing. All of us at Nash Finch appreciate what he has done for us and wish him the very best."

"I have appreciated the opportunity to continuously improve the service we provide to our customers, and to bring together outstanding industry professionals into a team that will serve Nash Finch well for the future. I am very proud of what has been accomplished, and feel the time is right for me to consider doing something different." Nelson did not announce any immediate plans.
David Bersie, s.v.p. of food distribution, will now report directly to Marshall. In addition, Michael Lewis, e.v.p. and president of retail, and James Patitucci, e.v.p. of merchandising and marketing, both of whom recently joined the company, will continue to report to Marshall.
