NACDS Praises Pfizer's Move to Expand Access of Prescription Drugs
ALEXANDRIA, Va. - Craig Fuller, president and c.e.o. of the National Association of Chain Drug Stores, said the association applauds drug manufacturer Pfizer, Inc. for its new program designed to expand access to prescription medicines across the United States.
New York-based Pfizer unveiled plans for the initiative this week. The program will provide access to Pfizer drugs for free or at discounts of up to 50 percent to uninsured families, starting in August. It and a companion program called Pfizer Pfriends expand the company's already existing programs. Pfizer's medicines treat many common medical conditions, including hypertension, cardiovascular disease, depression, and diabetes.
"Pfizer's actions illustrate the importance of making a commitment to finding new ways to help the uninsured. Today, more than 43 million people are without health insurance, and over 60 million do not have prescription coverage. The Pfizer Pfriends card will allow America's uninsured to obtain medications at a discounted price," Fuller of NACDS said.
"By working together, manufacturers and community pharmacies can help provide the neediest patients with comprehensive access to prescription medications," he added.
