Mi Pueblo Food Centers Goes Live with TCI HQ Pricing Solution

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Mi Pueblo Food Centers has completed a rapid implementation of TCI HQ, with data converted on the first day and staff fully trained by the end of the week.

Mi Pueblo migrated from TCI Inventory Management System (IMS) to TCI HQ, a Windows-based headquarters pricing solution. The eight-store chain upgraded to TCI's new-generation solution to centralize and control item information and pricing from its headquarters. Data conversion and primary training were completed in one week, and TCI provided further training and go-live support activities for an additional week.

Mi Pueblo, a Hispanic format chain, focuses on merchandising and perimeter departments. TCI HQ enables the retailer to centrally control all retail prices and manage the authorizations by vendor and UPC from headquarters.

"We completed our implementation in record time," said Mi Pueblo systems director Norm Tinkham. "It was a team effort." Tinkham explained to Progressive Grocer that although Mi Pueblo had the DOS version of IMS, which still worked well, "we wanted to upgrade to a more comprehensive package that was Windows-compatible." By making the switch, he says the company has gained in efficiency, as the new, "more flexible" system "is a lot faster, there's a lot less data entry, and reporting is a lot better."

He also cited such improvements as customizable data entry screens, and enhanced communications with stores through the changeover from dialup to FTP.

According to Tinkham, TCI had worked "very closely" with Mi Pueblo during the implementation process, with programmers on-site. "The stores never knew the difference," he noted, since there was no down time.

With more than 400 customers and 15,000 installations worldwide representing 30 percent of North America's top 75 supermarket chains, TCI offers a full range of software solutions, consulting, and professional services, as well as technical support.
