Meijer Restructuring IT Dept.
Meijer is planning to “trim and restructure” its information technology staff over the coming months, MiBiz.com has reported.
Citing that it wants to be as “efficient as possible” while competing in a “highly competitive retail environment,” Grand Rapids, Mich.-based Meijer confirmed that some staffers had been or would be “displaced,” the news site said. Much of the restructuring comes to help Meijer shift its attention to better meet click-and-collect and home delivery demand, a source close to the matter told MiBiz.com. Meijer piloted delivery in Detroit last year, then announced plans to expand the service across its six-state footprint in March. It has also been expanding its curbside pickup program.
The changes affect about 10 percent of the staff, the source added. The company is expected to lay off 46 employees and transfer another 25 to Capgemini, a multinational IT consulting firm based in Paris.
Changes are anticipated to occur over the rest of this year and possibly into 2018.
