Meijer Opens Two Indiana Supercenters
Midwest superstore retailer Meijer opened new 192,000-square-foot supercenters this week in two communities near Indianapolis.
Residents in McCordsville and Franklin, Ind., now have available Meijer’s one-stop shopping option for groceries, general merchandise and a full-service pharmacy. The new stores will also offer the Shipt home delivery service, which recently launched across Indianapolis and continues to gain popularity with customers looking for another convenient way to shop.
"We opened our first stores in Indiana 23 years ago, so we are very pleased to be able to now offer our McCordsville and Franklin neighbors with the service, quality, selection and low prices that Meijer customers in other Indiana communities have come to expect," Co-Chairman Hank Meijer said.
The newest of Meijer’s 38 stores throughout Indiana, these locations are built to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards and are the latest in a $375 million investment this year that includes the construction of seven new Meijer supercenters and remodel projects for 22 additional stores in Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Ohio and Kentucky.
Meijer offers more than 600 varieties of farm-fresh produce and a full-service meat department including fresh seafood, Certified Angus Beef and custom cuts of meat. The bakery specializes in custom-decorated cakes and fresh bread baked four times daily.
In addition to the retailer's traditional grocery and merchandise, garden center, and 24-hour gas station at each store, the McCordsville and Franklin pharmacies will feature a drive-thru pick up and the company's free prescription program covering generic antibiotics with a special focus on prescriptions most often filled for children, prenatal vitamins and medications for those with diabetes and high cholesterol.
"Our teams have exceeded expectations every step of the way as we prepared for these openings," Meijer President and CEO Rick Keyes said. "Our top priority is to serve customers, and we're excited to provide our neighbors in McCordsville and Franklin the shopping experience they deserve."
At their respective grand openings, the stores demonstrated their commitment to the community by making donations to local organizations. McCordsville Store Director Tim Snyder presented $25,000 to the Mount Vernon Community School Corporation to help establish CollegeChoice 529 savings accounts for all Mount Vernon kindergarten students. Franklin Store Director Nicole Kidd presented $25,000 to the Johnson County Senior Services and Food Pantry (JCSS), an organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for seniors age 60 and older to live with dignity and maintain their independence.
Grand opening events are planned beginning May 4, including “mystery” gift cards of $5, $10 or $20 presented to the first 200 customers.
Grand Rapids, Mich.-based Meijer operates more than 230 supercenters and grocery stores throughout Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky and Wisconsin.
