Mastronardi's Sunset Champagne Takes Top Honors in Tomato Contest
Mastronardi Produce/Sunset's new tomato variety - the Champagne Cocktail -- this past weekend cleaned house at the annual Capital Tomato Competition presented by REACH International in Leamington, Ontario.
As a part of the "Hottest Tomato" contest, Mastronardi took top honors with its Champagne Cocktail Tomato for the Specialty Variety category and with its Beef Tomato in the Beef Variety category. Mastronardi also claimed the prestigious "Overall Best Hothouse Tomato" award for its Champagne Cocktail Tomato.
Paul Mastronardi, e.v.p. of the company that bears his name, is pumped the new variety captured the top awards, particularly since "we just released it commercially in May of this year and have been sold out since."
The Champagne Cocktail Tomato is just one of the more than 100 different varieties of tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers that Mastronardi grows and packs under its Sunset label of produce.
