'Mary Ann' of 'Gilligan's Island' Returns to United Show Via Idaho Potato Commission

EAGLE, Idaho -- Dawn Wells, a.k.a., Mary Ann Summers, one of the six S.S. Minnow castaways from the enduringly popular 1960s television show "Gilligan's Island," will be on hand at the United/Food Marketing Institute's convention for the second year in a row, thanks to the Idaho Potato Commission (IPC), based here.

Wells, set to work the crowd from the IPC booth (9202) in the Idaho state pavilion, will join show goers on Sun., May 7, through Tues., May 9, 2006 at Chicago's McCormick Place.

Wells, an Idaho resident, and the IPC have enjoyed a friendship for several years. IPC is a major sponsor of the three-year-old Spudfest, Wells' family film and music festival that takes place every August in Idaho.

Seth Pemsler, IPC's v.p. of retail sales, said he expects Wells to once again draw large crowds to the IPC booth at FMI. "Each time we work with Dawn, it's been an excellent experience. In person, she's as real and charming as her television character, Mary Ann," Pemsler said. "We also think the opportunity to enjoy a private dinner with Dawn will be great fun and certainly earn the winner some champion 'bragging rights' for years."
