Mag Honors Danny Wegman as Champ for Women's Health and Fitness
Wegmans Food Markets' c.e.o. Danny Wegman has made Fitness magazine's inaugural list of women's health and fitness champions it is calling the Fit 50 List.
In a brief accompanying profile in the magazine's November/December 2008 issue, Wegman is called the "Healthy Grocery Guru." Among the reasons for his inclusion in the list are his "personal passion for wellness" and the company's effort to keep food prices low for financially pressed shoppers, the magazine said.
The list "celebrates the top doctors, lawmakers, athletes, business owners, activists, and visionaries who effected real change in women's health and fitness in 2008," said executive editor Pam O'Brien. "We are honoring Danny Wegman for making health and healthy eating a priority at Wegmans; for selling locally grown, farm-fresh produce; for vowing to keep prices low and putting the consumer first in these trying economic times, and for the all-around emphasis on wellness that is part of Wegmans' mission."
Other well-known health and fitness advocates who made the list are writer Michael Pollan, news anchor Katie Couric, sports star Venus Williams, and Cornell University researcher Dr. Brian Wansink.
Rochester, N.Y.-based Wegmans, a family-owned company, operates 72 stores in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, and Maryland.
