Lidl to Open Next 4 Stores July 13
Following the debut of its first U.S. stores this month, Lidl will open its next four stores July 13 at 8 a.m. in Virginia and North Carolina. Lidl also revealed plans to build a fourth regional headquarters and distribution center, in Cartersville, Ga.
“Since opening our doors two weeks ago, we have begun the journey of serving our customers with top-quality products at the best possible prices every single day,” said Brendan Proctor, president and CEO of Lidl US, which has its headquarters in Arlington County, Va. “We are excited to announce today that we will be bringing the Lidl experience to even more communities in Virginia and North Carolina in a few short weeks. At Lidl, we are committed to providing our customers with a simpler, more efficient shopping experience with better choices at lower prices so they can shop with confidence.”
The stores are located in Chesapeake and Culpeper, Va., and Havelock and Wake Forest, N.C. Shoppers will be able to take advantage of limited-time-only grand-opening special offers, and the first 100 customers to arrive at each store will receive a wooden coin that gives them a chance to win up to $100 in Lidl gift cards. Shoppers can also sample a range of the grocer’s products and get a complimentary Lidl reusable bag while supplies last. Games, activities, prizes, special deals and giveaways will continue during what the company has dubbed “grand-opening weekend.”
Of the new $100 million distribution center, which is anticipated to create 250 jobs over the next five years, Proctor noted: “Our Cartersville facility will help us efficiently deliver top quality goods to our future customers throughout the area. We selected Bartow County because it offers an outstanding workforce, a centralized location for our distribution network, and because Bartow County is a great place for our employees to work and live.”
Lidls' other U.S. regional headquarters and distribution centers are in Spotsylvania County, Va.; Alamance County, N.C.; and Cecil County, Md.
Company spokesman Will Harwood told Progressive Grocer that construction on the facility was expected to be complete by the end of next year.
Lidl operates more than 10,000 stores in 28 countries.
