Leading Brazilian Chain Streamlines IT Infrastructure with Enterprise Solution

SAO PAULO, Brazil - Brazilian food and general merchandise retailer Grupo Pão de Açúcar plans to deploy an enterprise-wide software solution to consolidate its IT infrastructure and gain increased visibility into business operations.

The retailer, which has 573 stores and 64,000 employees selected SAP solutions, which in addition to gaining visibility into its operations, also plans to use the software to better control corporate governance processes and comply with regulatory controls.

"We anticipate a return on investment with SAP - both qualitatively as well as financially," said Joaquim Dias Garcia, IT manager, Grupo Pão de Açúcar. "SAP knows the retail business, and this was the determining factor in our decision. As soon as the system is in production, we will obtain gains in agility and information quality because all our business operations will be consolidated on a single platform."

With the SAP implementation, Grupo Pão de Açúcar expects to achieve its goal of consolidating 10 in-house IT systems, resulting in a gain of visibility across its entire business operations. The company will employ an integrated platform and various applications from SAP, including its enterprise resource planning application, SAP ERP, to better manage risks, prepare for future trends and market changes, and customer demands.

The SAP applications include financial accounting and controlling, material management for indirect suppliers, plant maintenance, and the solution for business planning and simulation.

The announcement was made at the National Retail Federation (NRF) 97th Annual Convention and Expo, held January 13-16 in New York.
