Las Vegas Smith's, Food 4 Less Associates Ratify New Labor Agreement

The Kroger Co. said Friday that associates who are members of United Food & Commercial Workers Union Local 711 in Las Vegas have ratified a new labor agreement with the grocer's Smith's and Food 4 Less divisions.

"This agreement maintains quality jobs and affordable health care for our associates and their families in this challenging economy and keeps our stores competitive," noted Jim Hallsey, president of Smith's Food and Drug, and Dave Hirz, president of Food 4 Less, in a joint statement.

The agreement covers over 2,800 Smith's associates and 900 Food 4 Less associates who work in 47 stores in the Las Vegas area.

Cincinnati-based Kroger employs more than 320,000 associates who work in 2,477 supermarkets and multidepartment stores in 31 states. The company's supermarket banners include Kroger, Ralphs, Fred Meyer, Food 4 Less, Fry's, King Soopers, Smith's, Dillons, QFC and City Market. Kroger also operates 778 convenience stores, 392 fine jewelry stores, 750 supermarket fuel centers and 41 food-processing plants.
