Kroger Workers in Houston Ratify Contracts
CINCINNATI - Employees at Kroger Co. in the Houston area have ratified two new labor agreements, the Cincinnati Business Courier reports. They had been working without a contract since April 3.
The contracts cover about 10,800 employees at 106 stores who are represented by the United Food and Commercial Workers union.
While Kroger declined to provide reporters with specifics about the contract, the Cincinnati-based grocer said the two sides initially disagreed over health-care benefits. When the contract was proposed, Kroger said the agreement included annual wage increases and the opportunity to participate in the same health plan as the division's administrative and management personnel.
Kroger has a number of major contracts scheduled to expire in 2004, in Cincinnati; Seattle; Louisville; Nashville, Tenn.: Detroit; Denver; and Las Vegas, according to the report.
