Kroger Widens Effort to Buy Eggs for the Needy
The Kroger Co.’s Indianapolis-based Central Division is expanding the implementation of the Hatch program designed to raise funds for purchasing eggs for the hungry.
This expansion is set to be formally rolled out at a Feb. 12 press event at Kroger’s store on the east side of Terre Haute, Ind., where representatives from Kroger, egg producer Rose Acre Farms, and Elanco Animal Health will speak. Hatch partners with these three companies and local food banks in the Midwest.
Hatch is a new program that makes it easy for consumers, grocery stores and farmers to work together to provide eggs to undernourished children and their families.
On Friday, the program will transfer 900 dozen eggs to the Terre Haute Catholic Charities’ food bank. Speakers at the event, which will feature first-hand accounts from people who have benefitted from Hatch, will include John Elliott, Kroger manager of public affairs; Rose Acre spokeswoman Katie Schlosser; and Jimmy Owens, Elanco’s director of global strategy and operations.
Kroger’s Central Division includes supermarkets in the Indianapolis, Fort Wayne and South Bend, Ind., and Peoria, Ill., metro areas.
