Kroger Promotes Tarver to C-Store/Petrol V.P.

CINCINNATI-- The Kroger Co. here promoted Van Tarver to v.p. of its convenience store division, where he will oversee the chain's 791 c-stores, and its fuel procurement operation. Tarver will also oversee the company's Lancaster, Pa.-based Turkey Hill Dairy operation.

"Van brings more than 35 years of convenience store and fuel management experience to his new position," said Rodney McMullen, Kroger's vice chairman of Kroger. "These segments are critical parts of our overall business, and we look forward to Van's leadership as this important division continues to grow."

Tarver joined Kroger in 1997 as president of Quik Stop Markets, Inc. He previously served as s.v.p. of retail for Thrifty Oil Co. and worked in management for National Convenience Stores Inc.

Kroger operates five convenience store divisions under the following names: Kwik Shop, Loaf 'N Jug, Quik Stop, Tom Thumb and Turkey Hill Minit Markets. The c-store division is based in Hutchinson, Kan.

At the end of fiscal 2005, Kroger operated, either directly or through its subsidiaries, 2,507 supermarkets and multi- department stores in 31 states, under two dozen local banners; as well as 791 convenience stores, 428 fine jewelry stores, 579 supermarket fuel centers, and 42 food processing plants.
