Kings Food Markets Partners with Grow It Green Morristown

Kings Food Markets is ramping up its participation in making fresh food more easily accessible by partnering with Grow It Green Morristown, a nonprofit focused on growing food and maintaining a healthy, safe environment.

“We are very proud to work with Grow It Green Morristown to provide fresh, local produce to the community while educating them on healthy eating habits and how to be self-sufficient, as part of our Act Against Hunger Initiative,” said Judy Spires, president and CEO of Kings Food Markets. Through the initiative, the Parsippany, N.J.-based retailer has donated more than 100,000 pounds of food.

Kings, which has supported Grow It Green Morristown for several years, will now be involved with the nonprofit’s annual gala to raise funds to bring farm-based educational programs to residents of the community and make fresh food as well as outdoor space accessible to all. The nonprofit has donated more than 5,500 pounds of food in the last two growing seasons and has provided opportunities for residents to buy food at cost or grow their own food. Kings will support Grow It Green through several platforms, including in-store, social media and volunteer opportunities.

“Kings’ donations have allowed us to expand the physical space of the farm and grow the produce, which has in turn, enabled us to donate fresh produce to area soup kitchens, shelters and schools,” said Abby Gallo, executive director of Grow It Green Morristown.
