Kids Free Fruit Program Launched at United Family Stores
The United Family, Lubbock, Texas, is recognizing National Nutrition Month with the launch of Kids Free Fruit Program. Children can enjoy an apple, orange or banana at no charge while their parents shop at all United Supermarkets, Market Street, Albertsons Market and Amigos locations in West Texas and Dallas-Fort Worth.
The program was designed by The United Family’s registered dietitians to help children reach one- to two-servings of fruit each day, which is recommended by the United States Department of Agriculture. “Proper nutrition is critical for children and adults, and our Kids Free Fruit Program provides an opportunity to develop healthy habits during children’s formative years,” Robin Hawkins, director of health and wellness for The United Family, said in a statement.
Market Street, which features in-store registered dietitians, is also celebrating Registered Dietitian Day on Wednesday, March 11 by encouraging guests to sigh up for in-store tours to learn more about how to make healthy choices in every aisle and department, including demonstrations on “Easy Diabetes Shopping,” “Healthy Shopping 101,” “Healthy Heart Cart” and “Living Gluten and Dairy Free.” “Our registered dietitians also serve as a great resource for Market Street guests to learn how to ensure they are selecting healthy options for their families,” says Hawkins.
The United Family is part of United Supermarkets LLC, a subsidiary of Albertson’s LLC, and operates 67 stores under five brands in 36 markets.
