Jewel-Osco Honors Latino Leaders
Jewel-Osco, Supervalu Inc.’s Chicago-area supermarket chain, will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with its fourth annual VIP reception to honor the culture and significant achievements of the Hispanic community.
“The importance of the growing Hispanic community can be found everywhere in our society,” said Brian Huff, Jewel-Osco president. “This community event is a way for Jewel-Osco to honor Hispanic business and community leaders for the work they have done. In this way, we are all connected and our future success is linked to one another.”
The signature invitation-only event – “Sabor de la Herencia Hispana,” of Taste of Hispanic Heritage – is scheduled for Wednesday evening at Chicago’s National Museum of Mexican Art. This event is dedicated to recognizing the continuous efforts and contributions made by leaders from the business and non-profit sectors of the Latino community. The event will also highlight Latin cuisine by showcasing exclusive dishes developed by culinary students from Chicago’s St. Augustine College, along with major local Hispanic brands.
During the reception, Jewel-Osco will honor three social service agencies for their efforts and commitment to enriching the Hispanic communities they serve. The retailer will award a total of $15,000 in grants to Alivio Medical Center, Immaculate Conception Food Pantry and Aspira of Illinois. The work of these organizations reflects Jewel-Osco’s pledge to support initiatives that mirror the company’s charitable giving strategy, which focuses on three areas: hunger relief, nutrition education and environmental stewardship.
The reception will also serve as an opportunity for Jewel-Osco to underscore its long-term business relationship with Latino vendors, by recognizing V&V Supremo as its 2011 Vendor of the Year.
Jewel-Osco will further celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with a series of in-store culinary events featuring authentic Latin American recipes, prizes and family activities at four Chicago-area stores.
