Industry Vet Rejoins Penn Traffic as Chief Marketing and Distribution Officer
SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The Penn Traffic Co. here said yesterday that industry veteran Greg Young is rejoining the company as s.v.p. and chief marketing & distribution officer. Young, who served more than 25 years in a number of management and other positions at Penn Traffic and P&C Foods, more recently held positions at both A&P and C&S Wholesale Grocers. His last position at C&S was v.p./general manager of retail.
In his new role at Penn Traffic, Young will report directly to Bob Chapman, president and c.e.o. of Penn Traffic, and will be responsible for managing all functions in Penn Traffic's marketing and distribution operations.
"Greg has a proven track record of developing and implementing successful consumer marketing programs that anticipate and respond to the needs of supermarket customers," said Chapman in a statement. "Since he left our company, he has gained an additional wealth of experience in marketing, operations, and distribution. Greg is very familiar with all our markets and our distribution system."
Young had served for more than 25 years in a number of management and other positions at Penn Traffic and P&C Foods, including v.p. of the grocery division, v.p. of grocery merchandising, director of grocery merchandising, and wholesale merchandising manager. Young began working for the company as a P&C store employee in 1974.
When Young left Penn Traffic in 1999, he became v.p. of sales & merchandising for A&P Super Foodmart. He also worked as v.p. of store operations and group v.p./general manager for A&P.
For the past three years, Young has been an executive with C&S Wholesale Grocers, first as v.p. of perishables and most recently as v.p./general manager of C&S Retail.
Penn Traffic operates 112 supermarkets in Pennsylvania, central and upstate New York, Vermont, and New Hampshire under the Quality, BiLo, and P&C trade names. Penn Traffic also operates a wholesale food distribution business serving 78 licensed franchises and 50 independent operators and Penny Curtiss, a Syracuse-based commercial bakery.
Earlier this month, the retailer said that due to governmental investigations seeking information relating to the company's promotional and allowance practices and policies, it would further delay the finalization and release of audited financial statements for its 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2006 fiscal years.
