Hy-Vee Donates $50K to Breast Cancer Fund

:Having raised funds by selling pink reusable bags throughout its seven-state region in October - fifty cents of which went directly to a charitable fund -- Hy-Vee Inc. donated $50,000 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

"It's rare to find a person who does not know a friend or family member who has battled breast cancer," said Jon Wendel, Hy-Vee's v.p. of marketing, noting the company's efforts that are dedicated to "eradicating a disease that plagues so many of the women we know and love."

Of the funds Hy-Vee raised, 25 percent will go to supporting research efforts while 75 percent will stay in Iowa and help fund education, treatment and support efforts in the 81 counties the affiliate services.

The employee-owned Hy-Vee operates 224 retail stores in seven Midwestern states.
