Homeland Stores, John Morell Donate $18K to Fight Hunger

John Morell, a brand of Smithfield Foods, and Homeland Stores donated $17,780 and 500 pounds of ham to the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma in Oklahoma City. The donation was a local component to the brand’s commitment to No Kid Hungry, which provides children with meals in the summer as well as teaches families how to shop and cook on a budget.

The company matched Homeland’s customers’ donations of $8,890, and the ham was beneficial in providing protein, a needed dietary staple that can be hard for the charity to secure due to expense, according to Rodney Bivens, executive director of the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma.

"John Morrell's partnership with No Kid Hungry is an excellent way for us to make a difference by helping children and families in need get the food they need," said Chuck Gitkin, SVP, marketing, Smithfield Foods. "Supporting the fight against hunger in the communities where we work and live is important to everyone at Smithfield Foods. We are proud of our relationship with No Kid Hungry, and are thankful for the support of partners such as Homeland Stores."
