HEB Headed to Leander, Texas
SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- H.E. Butt Grocery Co. here submitted draft plans to the city of Leander, Texas last week for a new 143,000-square-foot store. The company is still finalizing design plans and hasn't determined whether it will be an HEB Plus, spokeswoman Leslie Lockett told Progressive Grocer.
"We plan to break ground on the store in the summer and open it sometime during the first half of 2007," she said.
The store will be the first HEB in Leander, a city of 24,000 in Central Texas that does not currently have a major supermarket.
HEB currently operates five HEB Plus stores, in Waco, Austin, Round Rock, Corpus Christi, and San Antonio. HEB Plus features a wide range of products, ranging from food and hardware, to clothing. The stores are all over 100,000 square feet.
HEB also operates 272 conventional HEB supermarkets, and eight upscale Central Market stores in Texas.
