Harris Teeter Distributes Wellness Brochures for Summer

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Regional supermarket chain Harris Teeter is touting health and wellness just in time for the July 4th weekend, by offering five new "yourwellness" brochures. The handouts are designed to educate shoppers about being smart during the summer months, seafood safety, produce variety, planning a healthy picnic, and grilling.

July 4th topics include how to choose the appropriate cut of meat and to remove the charred portion of your steak, the health benefits of the different color fruits and vegetables in Harris Teeter's "Farmers Market" produce section, the proper amount of sunscreen to apply, and how to keep hydrated on Independence Day.

The five brochures are being placed in the perishables departments and pharmacy of all Harris Teeter stores. Each brochure focuses on products available in those specific departments.

Harris Teeter now offers 23 of what it calls wellness keys throughout all its stores. The wellness keys represent a variety of attributes, including sugar free, fat free, vegan, and heart healthy. They can be found on select packages of Harris Teeter brand and HT Natural products. Additionally, wellness key shelf tags are located throughout all stores in front of yourwellness products.

Harris Teeter teamed up with Russell H. Greenfield, M.D. to develop the yourwellness guide. Dr. Russ is medical director of Carolinas Integrative Health and a food expert. The pages of the guide include a list of all the wellness keys, 10 common health ailments, and recommended foods from Dr. Russ that may help prevent or minimize the effect of these ailments.

Harris Teeter's chef, Phil Anderson, has also developed recipes for each ailment using Dr. Russ's recommended foods.
