Hannaford Bros. to Open 35th Store, Redesign Mag

SCARBOROUGH, Maine -- Hannaford Bros. Supermarket and Pharmacy here will open its 35th supermarket in New York, in South Glens Falls, on Saturday, April 22. The 47,000-square-foot store will include a pharmacy, Hannaford's organic and natural foods department, "Nature's Place," a "Harvest Market" featuring organic and locally grown produce available in season, and a full-service butcher shop offering freshly prepared entrees.

Hannaford said last week that during the store's grand opening, store manager Jim Nassivera will plant a tree in the parking lot to commemorate Earth Day. In addition, the first 500 customers entering the store will get a free hardwood recipe box, and customers will get to sample a variety of products.

The chain also said it plans to contribute $10,000 to local organizations in a presentation on the night before the grand opening.

Store hours are 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Sunday, and pharmacy hours are 8 a.m. to 9p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

In other news, the chain selected the Pohly Co. to help it reposition and redesign "Hannaford Fresh," its bimonthly customer magazine.

Boston-based Pohly is a customer communications company that provides marketing and publishing services. It will handle publication strategy development, distribution analysis and refinement, editorial content, graphic design, and print production for the publication.

Delhaize-owned Hannaford operates 151 supermarkets and food-and-drug combination stores in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, New York, and Massachusetts under the Hannaford Supermarket and Hannaford Supermarket and Pharmacy banners. Hannaford employs more than 24,000 associates.
