H-E-B Recognized As National Environmental Leader By EPA
SAN ANTONIO -- H-E-B Grocery Co. has been named an Energy Star Leader for demonstrating superior energy management and environmental leadership by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
H-E-B, as one of 18 organizations recognized nationwide and one of three companies in Texas, has received recognition for 137 stores for outstanding energy reduction practices and savings across the state.
"These businesses prove that superior energy management is the cornerstone of strong energy, environmental, and financial performance," said EPA regional administrator Richard E. Greene. "By managing their energy well, these organizations are showing their leadership, improving their financial performance and helping to protect the environment."
"H-E-B is very pleased with our accomplishment," Bob Loeffler, H-E-B c.o.o., said in a statement. "As we enter our 100th year of business, energy conservation is a major priority for the company and we are poised and ready to continue achieving significant energy savings in the future."
EPA designated H-E-B as an Energy Star Leader based on its actual energy efficiency, as measured using EPA's energy performance rating system, which provides an objective, standardized approach for measuring the efficiency of an entire building, or building portfolio, on a 100-point scale.
H-E-B earned recognition for establishing energy efficiency baselines for all its buildings, a critical step in successful energy management. In addition, it achieved an energy rating of 75 or better for each of its building portfolios.
H-E-B operates more than 300 stores in Texas and Northern Mexico with more than 60,000 employees.
