Grocery Outlet’s Independence from Hunger Raises $300K

The third annual Independence from Hunger food drive, held at more than 180 participating independently owned Grocery Outlet stores, has raised $300,000 in cash, grocery gift cards and food donations, which will go to 200 local food assistance agencies in California, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Arizona and Nevada.

“Independence from Hunger demonstrates how committed our team of independent owners and operators are to their local communities,” said Eric Lindberg, co-CEO of Berkeley, Calif.-based Grocery Outlet Inc.

Throughout July, when food banks experience the greatest need, each participating Grocery Outlet location selected at least one local food assistance agency to benefit from the food drive. To help boost awareness and encourage participation, the stores offered a range of special events, from educational seminars about local food assistance agencies to festivals for the whole family.

The largest extreme-value grocer in the United States, Grocery Outlet has nearly 200 locations in Arizona, California, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Washington and Pennsylvania.
