Golub Corp., Italian Trade Commission Team Up
The Golub Corp. and the Italian Trade Commission have inked a multiyear partnership to increase the number and variety of authentic Italian products across the Northeastern grocery chain’s six-state footprint. The partnership -- one of just three in the United States, and the only one of its kind on the East coast -- will bring authentic Italian products to Golub's Price Chopper Supermarkets and Market 32 stores.
"Italian heritage runs deep throughout our marketing footprint, and its powerful culinary influence continues to inspire the way many of us eat," noted Jerry Golub, CEO of the Schenectady, N.Y.-based Golub Corp. "We recognize that customers are looking for authentic products with which to make traditional 'old-world' and new classic Italian dishes for their families, and we're confident that this partnership will help us to provide the best assortment of genuine Italian products available."
The partnership's inaugural promotion, Extraordinary Italian Taste, which kicked off on Oct. 11 and runs through Oct. 24, spotlights new varieties of authentic Italian cheese, cured meats, crackers, pastry, beverages, pastas, sauces, pesto, tomatoes, vegetables, fish, oils, vinegars, wood-fired pizza and gelato, as part of Price Chopper's and Market 32's selection of almost 850 Italian imported products. New items are expected to be added as the partnership progresses.
The other two food retailers to have partnerships with the commission are San Antonio-based H-E-B, parent company of the gourmet-focused Central Market chain, and upscale Roundy's banner Mariano's in the Chicago area, a Golub spokeswoman told Progressive Grocer.
The Golub Corp. owns and operates 135 Price Chopper and Market 32 grocery stores in New York, Vermont, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
