Giant-Landover Teams With Toys for Tots

Giant Food LLC has formed a holiday partnership with Marine Toys for Tots. As the Ahold USA division continues to celebrate its 75th anniversary, Landover, Md.-based Giant will join forces with the nonprofit organization to provide Christmas gifts to children in need across the Mid-Atlantic region.

Beginning Nov. 28, Giant will host Toys for Tots collection bins in all of its stores. Additionally, the grocery chain presented Toys for Tots with a $50,000 check (left)  to further the charitable endeavor.

“For 65 years, the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation has been helping our community, providing joy and a message of hope to less fortunate children,” said Anthony Hucker, president of Giant. “[We] encourage our customers to donate new, unwrapped toys at their local Giant and bring holiday cheer to a child in need.”

Between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Nov. 28, Giant hosted Toys for Tots launch parties in select stores, offering cake and refreshments. Active-duty Marines joined chain associates to share details with customers about the new partnership and the Toys for Tots program.

Giant operates 173 supermarkets in Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, and the District of Columbia, and employs about 22,000 associates.

The Marine Toys for Tots Foundation is authorized by the U.S. Marine Corps and the Department of Defense to provide fundraising and other necessary support for the annual U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program. Now in its 65th year, Toys for Tots provides holiday gifts to less fortunate children. Last year, Marines gave out toys to more than 7.2 million needy kids.
