Giant-Landover Provides Inauguration Day Snacks for Police
Each bag held an energy-boosting Giant brand granola bar, an apple, and a gourmet muffin. The bags also contained a $5 coupon to be used at any Giant store.
The Ahold USA division, the Washington Metropolitan Police Department and the Washington Police Foundation coordinated the effort, The Washington Business Journal reported.
"The donations being made by Giant Food are just a small token of our thanks for keeping our city and visitors safe during the inauguration of our nation's 44th president," noted Giant Food e.v.p. and g.m. Robin Michel.
A Giant Food service provider packed the bags, which were distributed beginning at 6 a.m. yesterday. The snacks were available to officers throughout the day at six police respite locations along historic Pennsylvania Ave.
Over 2,000 D.C. Metropolitan Police Officers and 5,000 additional officers from across the country worked 12-hour shifts during the occasion to provide security at the Capitol and along the inaugural parade route.
