Giant Eagle Teams with Citizens Bank for Fuelperks Promo
In its ongoing bid to expand its popular gasoline discount rewards program, Giant Eagle is teaming with Citizens Bank to offer customers additional discounts on GetGo gasoline when using their bank card for a variety of purchases.
Customers who buy $50 worth of groceries a month at a Giant Eagle supermarket receive a 3-cent-per gallon discount at GetGo locations, on top of the Giant Eagle's 10-cent-per-gallon discount.
Branded "Citizens Bank fuelperks," the program provides the additional cents off when Citizens customers use their bankcards as a credit card, but not as a debit card.
Once enrolled, Citizens customers get an additional 1-cent per gallon discount at the pump for each $50 of gasoline per month they buy with their Citizens cards.
A Citizens Bank spokesman said about 4,000 customers have enrolled so far -- before the start of advertising planned for Dec. 1.
In addition, Citizens customers receive 1 cent per gallon off for every $50 worth of merchandise they buy elsewhere, including online purchases, with their bankcard.
Giant Eagle spokesman Rob Borella was quoted in local reports as saying that Pittsburgh’s market leading supermarket chain expects to extend the gasoline discount program to other channels in the future.
Citizens operates 55 branches in Giant Eagles in Western Pennsylvania, and 97 traditional branches. The supermarket has 67 GetGos in this region and about 75 in Ohio, Maryland and West Virginia.
