Giant-Carlisle Names New Dir. of Org. Effectiveness and Diversity

12/15/2008
Giant Food Stores, LLC said it has promoted Steve Harfield to the position of director of organizational effectiveness and diversity, to head the integration of diverse business practices into every area of the company.

The grocery chain said Harfield will foster the growth and development of all associates, and ensure that the working environment cultivates an ethical and equitable approach in conducting business with vendors, serving the customer, and engaging with the community.

Reporting to e.v.p. for human resources John Bussenger, Harfield replaces Deborah Vereen, who is retiring.

Harfield joined Giant in 1999 as an assistant store manager at the Carlisle, Pa. store. He was later store manager at the chain's Harrisburg, Shippensburg, and Chambersburg, Pa. stores. He is also a member of the store managers' council.

Ahold USA-owned Giant Food operates stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia under the Giant Food Stores, Martin's Food Markets, and FoodSource banners.
