Giant-Carlisle, Martin's Food Markets to Hold In-store Flu Clinics

Giant Food Stores, LLC and Martin's Food Markets have joined with Maxim HealthCare Services and the Florida Department of Citrus to provide flu shots for busy shoppers.

"Flu viruses change from year to year and, as a result, the flu vaccine is reformulated," noted Leigh Shirley, the Ahold USA banners' v.p. of pharmacy. "This year's flu bug might be different from last year's so it's important to be revaccinated every year. The Centers for Disease Control believe the supply of vaccine is sufficient to meet demand this year, and we encourage our customers to stop in to their local Giant or Martin's to receive a flu shot this season."

The flu clinics start Oct. 1 and continue until November 12 at all Giant and Martin's pharmacies. Associates from Columbia, Md.-based Maxim HealthCare Services will staff the clinics, and Medicare, along with several private insurance plans, will be accepted.

For a schedule of flu clinics at the stores, shoppers can stop by the pharmacy or log onto www.GiantFoodStores.com or www.MartinsFoodMarkets.com to access the Flu Clinic Finder through the "What's New" and "Healthy Ideas" menus on the homepage.

The banners have offered flu shots to customers since 1993, according to company spokeswoman Tracy Pawelski.

Carlisle, Pa.-based Giant Food Stores operates stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia under the Giant Food Stores, Martin's Food Markets, and Foodsource banners.
