Giant-Carlisle Appoints EVP of Format & Merchandising

Giant Food Stores, LLC today has named Casper Meijer to the position of EVP of format & merchandising, effective Feb. 23. His most recent post was SVP of perishable merchandising for Stop & Stop/Giant-Landover, which, like Giant-Carlisle, is a division of Ahold USA.

Meijer replaces Jeff Martin, Giant's former EVP of sales & merchandising who recently transferred to another executive position with Stop & Shop/Giant-Landover.

In his new role, Meijer will head up all merchandising and format development initiatives and report to president and CEO Sander van der Laan. He joined Ahold in 1999 as director of merchandising at Albert Heijn in the Netherlands and rose to the position of VP of sourcing for Ahold Europe.

Meijer joined the Stop & Shop/Giant-Landover organization in 2005 as the SVP of corporate brands and became SVP of perishable merchandising a year later.

Before joining Ahold, he held various marketing and business management positions at Unilever.

Carlisle, Pa.-based Giant operates stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia under the Giant Food Stores, Martin's Food Markets and FoodSource banners.
