Giant-Carlisle Appoints Director of Food Safety, Regulatory Affairs
CARLISLE, Pa. -- Giant Food Stores, LLC here has named Garey Walker director of food safety and regulatory affairs. Reporting to Tim Reardon, v.p. of risk management, Walker will oversee the development, implementation, and management of programs to maintain and exceed federal, state, and local food safety and regulatory standards.
According to Giant Foods director of public relations Tracy Pawelski, Walker succeeds Larry Kohl, who has accepted a position with Disney.
A native of Muskegon, Mich. with over 38 years of food science experience, Walker gained most of his experience from his stint with the U.S. Army as a food technologist. Before joining Ahold in 2001 as director of quality assurance for Giant-Landover, he served as v.p. of food safety and quality assurance at KMart.
Giant Food, one of six retail-operating companies under Ahold USA, operates 103 stores as Giant Food Stores, 119 stores as TOPS Markets and 25 stores as Martin's Food Markets. With almost 40,000 associates, Giant serves a six-state market area.
