The Fresh Market Coming to Pennsylvania's Lehigh Valley

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Specialty grocer The Fresh Market, based here, plans to open its first store in Pennsylvania by the end of 2006, according to a published report. The store will be located in Promenade Shops at Saucon Valley, a mall in Upper Saucon Township, located in the state's Lehigh Valley, Fresh Market spokesman Eric Blaesing said this week. The mall, which is now under construction, is scheduled to open in late October.

Measuring an average of 20,000 square feet, a typical Fresh Market store carries a variety of fresh foods at reasonable prices, in addition to such other items as coffee, candy, bulk items, and some prepared foods.

The Fresh Market, which currently operates 56 stores, has plans to open 10 new stores annually. The company has recently opened stores in Illinois and Ohio, beyond its Southern base.

The Lehigh Valley's main supermarket chains at the present time are Giant-Carlisle, Weis Markets, and Wegmans.
