Fresh Brands Appoints New Independent Director

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. - Fresh Brands, Inc. has appointed William E. May Jr. as a new independent director. "We are pleased to announce Bill's appointment to our board of directors," Walter G. Winding III, Fresh Brands' independent chairman of the board, said in a statement. "Bill has substantial experience in the supermarket industry and brings us an outside industry perspective and a great deal of practical industry experience. I strongly believe that Bill will be an excellent addition to our board."

May, e.v.p./c.o.o. of Too, Inc, a publicly traded operator of two specialty store chains, Limited Too and Justice, has held numerous executive positions in the supermarket industry, including roles as president and c.e.o. of Fleming Cos., e.v.p./c.o.o. for Nash Finch, and s.v.p. operations, marketing, procurement, and management information systems for Spartan Stores.

The retailer/wholesaler, through its corporately owned retail, franchised, and independent supermarkets, currently operates under the Piggly Wiggly and Dick's Supermarkets brands throughout Wisconsin and Northern Illinois. Fresh Brands currently has 77 franchised supermarkets, 23 corporate-owned supermarkets and two corporate-owned convenience stores, all of which are served by two distribution centers and a centralized bakery/deli production facility.
