Food Lion Speed Street Fest Revs Up in Charlotte

SALISBURY, N.C. -- Food Lion, the largest subsidiary of the Brussels-based Delhaize Group, is kicking off its annual Food Lion Speed Street festival today in uptown Charlotte, N.C. to commemorate the May races at nearby Lowe's Motor Speedway. The free-admission, three-day event transforms the streets of Charlotte into a showcase of motorsports, with entertainment on three stages, appearances by top Nextel Cup Drivers, dynamic exhibits for all ages, and an amazing assembly of NASCAR show cars and simulators.

Food Lion Speed Street is the largest motorsports festival in the world, attracting more than 450,000 people in 2005, according to Food Lion. The event has earned widespread recognition, including the International Special Events Society's "Best Fair/Festival" award in 2005. This is the 12th year Food Lion has been the title sponsor of the event.

This year's festival, spanning several city blocks, is the largest ever.

In addition to being an official host of Speed Street, Food Lion will offer grilling demonstrations and free samples of beef and prizes at its Butcher's Brand Beef exhibit.
