Food Lion Campaign Benefits Children's Miracle Network

SALISBURY, N.C. -- Now through April 30, all 1,215 Food Lion stores are conducting the "Food Lion for the Children" campaign to raise money for the Children's Miracle Network (CMN). Food Lion customers can participate by purchasing paper CMN balloons for $1 each.

CMN is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping children by raising funds and awareness for 170 children’s hospitals. Every dollar given during Food Lion's campaign will support a regional children's hospital. The $1 CMN paper balloons are scan-able at the cash register and added to the customer's total bill and shown on the receipt for easy record keeping.

Food Lion supports 31 CMN hospitals in its 11-state operations area. Over the last 15 years, Food Lion has raised and donated more than $20.7 million for CMN. In 2005, Food Lion raised and contributed more than $2.7 million to CMN hospitals.

In addition to its annual campaign held in April, Food Lion employees raise money for CMN throughout the year. Food Lion team members sponsor golf tournaments; hold bake sales, car washes and book fairs; sponsor motorcycle rides; and host carnivals and customer appreciation days.

Food Lion LLC is a subsidiary of Brussels-based Delhaize Group.
